Today it is another Piano Day, celebrated on the 88th day of every year.

It’s been a tradition to release a dedicated Binaural Space piano album on every Piano Day. The series began in 2020 with the release of "Untuned Piano Day,” an album featuring binaurally recorded improvisations played on an old, Viennese piano, untuned and broken.

In 2021 it was "Chopped Piano Day”, in 2022 a duo of albums called “Unfrozen Piano Day” and “Unfrozen Piano Nite”, and the last year’s album was called “Felt Piano Day”.

Each of the albums has been different. As Cat Temper stated last year in his review of Felt Piano Day: “Are you one who thinks all piano music sounds the same? Binaural Space once again shows how uncommonly expressive the instrument can be with subtle manipulation.”

Only the two “Unfrozen” ones featured a similar mood and soundscapes. Several fans have expressed their wish to see the process of making such albums. LovelyJoan, for instance, wrote “I just wish somewhere there was a recording of the process of making one of these.”

Ever since making the “Unfrozen” duo of albums I knew I’d make a concert or live stream called “Unfrozen Piano Date”; that’s why I called the nocturnal half of the two albums “Unfrozen Piano Nite,” not “Unfrozen Piano Night” (like on last year’s “Felt Piano Night”) – the word “Date” would be a combination of the words “Day” and “Nite”.

Last year I didn’t have the courage (nor the empty house opportunity) to do such a live stream. This year though it worked out – not without complications, but still.

These eight tracks were first played in one go on Piano Day 2024 to a small audience of some of my most loyal fans. All music had been 100% improvised as usual on my live streams, without any plan, and even the first note played – which inspired everything that would follow – was random. Everything was shot on camera and recorded to an old tape, simultaneously. The tape, slightly edited and mastered, turned into this album.

I hope you’ll love the result as much as I loved the process.
