FoxPuppy I'm a huge fan of Binaural Space's longer pieces and live improvisations, but this collection of Bite-Sized Binaural is a great collection for those days when you need or want to enjoy his unique artistry but want something that can keep up with an attention span on the go! Favorite track: Vertigo Skies.
SkyYamaha

SkyYamaha Supremely beautiful collection of bite sized musical appetizers, with the flavor of a VHS intro, each one delivering a new and comforting little escape. I absolutely love this about Binaural Space's music. It is a musical equivalent of a weighted blanket, and this album envelopes the listener instantly. But something about the length of tracks and the arrangement of this album feels extraordinarily light. It's a stunning release with an equally stunning sequel Favorite track: What If You're Wrong.
Cat Temper

Cat Temper I LOVE this curio cabinet of melodic miniatures. An assortment of sonic gems that could be the lost logotones for forgotten fantasy programs, all awash in smeared scanlines of time-worn VHS tapes.

Allister Thompson Just when it seems Binaural Space has hit his peak, he just gets better. This collection of beautifully melodic miniatures could have come from the late 70s and would have been one of the best albums that year.

about

For the past 3 years Flying Bohemian and me have been working on a collab album (first single from which we released last month: binaural-space.bandcamp.com/track/sunday-morning-afternoon). During the last third of this period we – which means mostly Flying Bohemian to be honest – borrowed, one by one, several analog synthesizers from friends in order to replace tracks recorded using just virtual analog synths or plug-ins.

I was lucky to take a few of these home for a couple of days and although I focused on replicating real-but-better sounds in the analog domain and re-recording them using these magical hardware synths (and no, I'm not telling you which ones because GAS is real and it is a superfluous, meaningless and potentially harmful distraction), I had my tape recorder always ready for taking down little music ideas for future use.

Most of them were rather short and inspired by what was happening in my life at the time as well as by some of the sounds a particular synthesizer had to offer.

That period confirmed what I've known for most of my creative life, though: I never go back to my old ideas to finish them. In the time of their inception they always sound perfect to me and they would probably lead to something exciting if I continued working on them later, but I prefer composing new material over using my old ideas as a source.

However, the tapes have been there, some of them even labeled (which is a heroic achievement for someone as disorganized as me) and quite enticing... So I tried listening to them a couple of weeks ago just like a pure hearer, not someone obliged to continue working on them. And I found out they work as they are. Each of them a miniature composition consisting of just a few parts. Like etudes I learned as a music student long time ago. Binaural Space etudes. Spacetudes.

I picked a few, put them in order which tells a story I'd like to tell and I'm bringing them to you as an album consisting of 23 miniatures, little spacetudes – hopefully a refreshing diversion from the usual long-form compositions I prefer to make.

Why are there 23 of them? Well, for those who know my discography it's obvious – but it's not really important: To tell a good story means to know when to conclude it. And this one works well in 23 parts.

The second month of the year is February and its third day is today, so we're releasing this album right now, on February 3, 2023, because it makes the circle full and a perfect sense for someone a little geekily obsessed with numbers. It is also The Day The Music Died today and when something dies it should be balanced with something new getting born.

Anyway, let me know if this album works for you, too. I really hope you'll like it because I'm quite fond of it myself.

Enjoy Spacetudes and take care.

Binaural Space

Ambient traditionalists say to Binaural Space what the Emperor said to Mozart: “Too many notes.” In both cases, the rest of the world tends to disagree.
