Richie Sombrero Poignant album, celebrating an important milestone in modern European democracy.

Plaintive at times. Enjoying the cascading piano sounds of Losses.

A quiet, and personal suite of music.

CargoCultLuau I have been to Prague in 2016 and stood in front of the 17.11.1989 plaque. After this, I visited a coffee shop where a local described the meaning to me. It was an experience I won’t forget. This album brought that experience back to me. It is a truly wonderful album. Favorite track: Velvet Freedom.

Alpha Chrome Yayo One of my absolute favourite things about Binaural Space is his otherworldly ability to marry incredible musical and technical prowess with such EMOTION.

And, surely, this is the very greatest example; an album steeped in hope, change and better futures.

Admittedly my knowledge of the socio-political sphere that surrounds it is tertiary, but this has me ready for a voyage of learning.

What sweeter thing is there than bettering ourselves through tender, positive, emotionally rich music? Favorite track: Truth And Love Must Prevail (dedicated to Václav Havel).

Cat Temper Binaural Space's albums sound like time capsules of faded memories worn with time. This one could be taken from aging videotapes of a 1989 TV documentary.

I won't pretend to know the history of the Velvet Revolution or understand some of the voice snippets that appear. But I get strong feelings of conviction, resilience and hope in the meditative patterns and chords. A lovely album.

about

Freedom.

Some people take it for granted. Some are OK with an illusion of it. Some know they'll never have it. Some take it away from others.

For the first 13 years of my life I lived in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and I could only dream about freedom. On the 17th November, 1989, things started to change and we, Czechs and Slovaks, finally won our freedom. Sometimes I forget to be grateful for it – but never in November.

I keep rewatching the shots from Prague in November '89 every year, thanking the students, some of them older just by 5 years than the 13-year-old me back then, for their courage, civic responsibility and readiness to risk everything in order to throw the totalitarian regime down. I don't care about any conspiracy theories because I'm too grateful it ended well and the Velvet Revolution finally liberated us.

This album is my Thank You to every positive force involved in the rebirth of our little country. My gratitude for being allowed to travel, speak freely, to do things by my own choices. To be Binaural Space, a musician connected to fellow artists and fans all around the world.

Velvet Revolution has been the single most important event in my life and this album celebrates it but also confronts the long way to a functioning democracy for generations destroyed by fears, losses and thwarted chances.

We succeeded in getting rid of the communist party in the parliament only a couple of weeks ago, whole 32 years after the revolution. And our current prime minister used to be an agent of the State Security Police in the 80's. Some people happily collaborating with and benefiting from the previous regime just quickly switched sides and they still influence many affairs from the backstage. And there are new generations of evil people, striving for our exit from the EU or NATO and isolating our little country once again.

But even the fact that we *are* in the EU and NATO and that we live in a free country, are allowed to vote freely and express our opinions, whatever they are, is worth it and so I'm not complaining, just celebrating knowledgeably and vigilantly, praying for the freedom to persist and spread.

If you care about the victory of freedom in Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia those incredible 32 years ago, please join me in celebrating. If you don't, just enjoy the music – I have a feeling it's well worth it.

Thank you!

Binaural Space

Ambient traditionalists say to Binaural Space what the Emperor said to Mozart: “Too many notes.” In both cases, the rest of the world tends to disagree.
