FoxPuppy Have you ever wondered "What if we took the wholesome joyful pleasure of an Uncle Fido album and made it just a bit jazzier, just a bit funkier?" Well, whether or not you have wondered that, Hopkirk did it, and if you love the Tipentap albums like I do, you'll definitely want to add this to your Tipentap Mixtape.

about

Celebrations of the 2nd anniversary of Tipentap are approaching their climax with this cute album full of Hopkirk's cover versions / remixes of tracks from Uncle Fido's debut.

Last summer, Hopkirk, Flying Bohemian, and I were discussing possible collaborations over a beer or five. After raving about our collabs of dreams we decided to think about it more realistically and started talking about a 'Friends doing friends' concept.

I said it would be fun if Hopkirk remade one of my Binaural Space tracks as lo-fi beats. Hopkirk replied: “Man, I'd totally do the Tipentap stuff. They're basically chilled beats without drums already."

We laughed about it and didn't pursue the idea anymore.

When the 2nd anniversary of Tipentap, the debut album by my side project Uncle Fido, was getting closer, I got an idea for a special track just for the best and most loyal fans of Uncle Fido. I remembered our conversation and asked Hopkirk whether he would rework one of the tracks from the album.

He said "Maybe."

In just two weeks, he sent me a demo of "Gettinup”, the first track on the album you’re reading about, and took my breath away. I expected a whole track from Tipentap as it was, with just some added finger-drumming. But this multiple-transposed, chopped, and jazzed-up version was something much cooler.

Suddenly, I felt it would be a shame to use it just as a secret track for a fistful of fans. I asked Hopkirk whether he’d do a whole album with such Uncle Fido cover versions.

This is the result and I can’t tell you how happy I am that it exists. This multi-layered love letter to music – and, especially, musicians Hopkirk knows I love – is something one can play in the background when relaxing, sleeping, studying, working or working out, but it is also a brilliant album to immerse in and to focus on all the well-thought, inspiring and imaginatively executed little musical details.

I love this album with all my heart and if you really feel music, you’ll love it, too. Just give it a try and you’ll see.

Binaural Space

Ambient traditionalists say to Binaural Space what the Emperor said to Mozart: “Too many notes.” In both cases, the rest of the world tends to disagree.
