Ricky Ellison My first time listening to a Tipentap album and gee whiz have I been missing out.

The notes attached to the album are perfectly represented by the sound and each song tells the story, I can almost smell the baking!

I couldn't help but think while listening that the songs would not sound out of place in an episode of The Moomins which is never ever a bad thing. Favorite track: They Climb Up.

Cat Temper A great release to end the year on from one of my favorite fun musical projects. The joyful, wiggly, burbling synths get seriously funky midway through. Uncle Fido always infuses a sense of adventure into a simple task such as baking cookies!

Each copy was real-time recorded directly from the analog master played on a fabled Marantz deck to a warm and beloved old Nakamichi deck. Every single copy is unique and has desired little artefacts like warble, flutter or wow, making your cassette a hearty lo-fi original.

It's December 18, the National Bake Cookies Day, and Tipentap feel like cookies.

They don't want to wait for Uncle Fido so they decide to bake the cookies by themselves. And not some cookies: Snickerdoodles! Why? Because they love the word (who wouldn't)!

First they have to check the kitchen for ingredients:

- Flour?
- Check!
- Cream of tartar?
- What is it?
- No idea.
- Let's skip it then.
- OK. Baking soda?
- You mean a soda, but for baking?
- No, that white powder Uncle Fido uses for his heartburn.
- Ahh, I see. Check!
- Salt? Oh, we have that for sure. Next. Butter?
- Check!
- Sugar?
- Double check!
- Double?
- I've glimpsed the regular one as well as vanilla sugar already.
- Fine. Cinnamon?
- Oh I love the smell of cinnamon! Wait a moment... Double check again!
- Why this time?
- Cinnamon sticks Uncle Fido puts in his mulled wine, and cinnamon powder.
- Let's use the powder – you don’t want your Snickerdoodles too sticky. Vanilla extract?
- We don't need that.
- Why?
- We have the vanilla sugar.
- Oh right. Eggs?
- How many?
- Two.
- Damn...
- What?
- We don't have two eggs.
- That's not a tragedy. How many do we have?
- None.
- What?
- We have no eggs. Uncle Fido buys them on the marketplace on Monday. It's Sunday and we ate the last ones for breakfast...

They discuss the problem and then they find a solution: "Let's ask the hens if they have any."

So they talk to the hens but the hens refuse to give them any eggs, probably because of the misunderstanding last summer.

What now? They can't bake Snickerdoodles without eggs...

And then they remember Uncle Fido saying the hens hide some of the eggs up there in the henhouse.

So Tap decoys the hens away, claiming he has seen a fox coming to them from the forest with cat temper, and when the hens hide in the bushes, the two puppies climb up the ladder to the henhouse and search the interior for eggs.

"Got one!" exclaims Tip.

"Me too!" rejoices Tap.

Now they have all the ingredients and they can begin baking.

They've seen Uncle Fido bake cookies many times so it is a show of puppy elegance and doggy efficiency – they even remember to preheat the oven when they start mixing flour, baking soda and salt together.

- Are you sure we should put salt in?
- What do you mean?
- Shouldn't we use sugar?
- That, too. But Uncle Fido always says you gotta put salt in so that the dough has a taste.
- Okay. You know what I always remember when I hear "dough"?
- Yep. That ACY song with Arnie fighting the dough.

So they bake Snickerdoodles and play dope songs and have fun.

When the Snickerdoodles are baked and cooled, they test them.

- Ooooo, sooo yummy!!!
- The yummiest! Love 'em!

So they celebrate their success. They buzz a little fanfare using baking paper and they dance and laugh.

And then they save their Snickerdoodles for later, and for Uncle Fido, and because that year the National Bake Cookies Day is on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, they are thinking about Christmas and looking forward to the holidays and to Uncle Fido coming home and joining them to savour the best Snickerdoodles in the world. Because when you make them on your own, they taste the best.

I’ve always loved the funky side of Alpha. But the dark, wonderfully creepy ballads shine on this album! Tracks like Snuff ‘Em Out (my fav thx to a vid Alpha shared last month), Veins or Meat Ribbons are amazing. Synthwave sounds stale to me lately because of similar sound, omnipresent arpeggiators, weak melodies and basic harmonic structure, but Alpha’s unusual chord progressions as well as comparatively exotic melodies entertain me. I’ll be returning to this EP a lot; happy for the cas Tichounko
