about

For three years my fans have been sending me beautiful (really really beautiful, thank you so much) feedback on my Lofi Ambient Xmas album. Some of them expressed their wish that I should make Lofi Ambient Xmas 2.

This is the longed-for album. Once again – as with all our other festive releases – it's free or PWYW.

Many think the liner notes of the original album are an important part of the experience, so if you're new to the Lofi Ambient Xmas story, please read them here:

binaural-space.bandcamp.com/album/lofi-ambient-xmas

If you've already read them, good. If you haven’t, please do. You'll understand then.

What has changed in those three years? A lot. A few important people have left us. Some of them very recently. And I'm longing for the long gone Christmases I loved as a child even more. That's the main reason why I've made more of this kind of music.

The Christmases of my childhood were the best time of those years. Growing up in a totalitarian communist country meant the establishment had tried to change Christmas in something different but they succeed only partly – the core would remain intact and the holidays meant people would behave nicer to each other and enjoy some time for contemplation, solidarity and their families.

Back then we had snow here in Czech(oslovak)ia, lots of it, and that made Christmas even cosier and more magical. Then I started playing the organ in a church when eleven years old (read the liner notes of Lofi Ambient Xmas already? binaural-space.bandcamp.com/album/lofi-ambient-xmas ) and learned stuff there was banned about the holidays by the authorities – which made it even cooler.

Christmas of my adulthood and, especially, parenthood, has been much more stressful and that makes my longing for the perfect winter holidays of my childhood more nostalgic. That reflects in the music I choose to listen to during the magical time and, especially, the music I’ve tried to make for this album. It’s supposed to slow the pace of life down and enrich it with even more wobble, wow, flutter and noise of warm analog tape than last time.

I've been extremely fortunate because many of you truly love the first album and listen to it during the holidays every year. I made some sacrifices music-wise to make this, the second one, simpler than it was at first, more lofi and hopefully adding to the atmosphere – because that’s what’s important here.

Have I succeeded? You tell me.

Thank you very much for reading, listening and your ongoing support, and have a gratifying Advent – whoever you are, wherever you live and whatever your beliefs are.

This album is dedicated to my wife’s dad; my kids’ Grandad and my father-in-law, who died a couple of days ago and who will be always missed.

Its last song is dedicated to my Grandpa. He remembered Franz Schubert's Ave Maria played on a violin by another young man in the forced labor camp where they were interned by the nazis – as a song full of nostalgia, longing for better days and hope that such days will return.

Binaural Space

Ambient traditionalists say to Binaural Space what the Emperor said to Mozart: “Too many notes.” In both cases, the rest of the world tends to disagree.
