This album is a story about a boy who suffered from anxiety, headaches so severe he had to be taken from school to a hospital many times and, later in life, from panic attacks.

When the coronavirus pandemic began, this boy got worried. And then he got afraid. And finally he got scared.

After the lockdown started, he tried evading his fear by playing video games. Fortunately for him, a new one got released at the right time. Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

This game gave him escape. It gave him relief. It gave him hope he would get through the most fearful event in his life so far unharmed.

He made friends with animals, invited them to live on his island and to relax, lost in the animated world he built for himself and his animal friends.

When he wasn’t playing, he often thought about playing the game anyway. One day he made a song, inspired by the game. And then, a different day, another one. And yet another one. It allowed him to visit his island without playing, and it, as he said, “saved his sanity”.

One night an idea of a conceptual album occured to him. A story about a boy whose name is Noah. Little Noah takes a few animals to an island, in order to hold out during pandemics. There they will live, build their small world and wait.

When the lockdown and the danger is finally over and he and his animal friends can feel safe elsewhere, Noah the Boy becomes Noah the Manimal, a young man with new animal friends, animal strength and no fear anymore.

And he realizes that we, people, have actually been those animals crossing newer horizons all the time.

I’ve always loved the funky side of Alpha. But the dark, wonderfully creepy ballads shine on this album! Tracks like Snuff ‘Em Out (my fav thx to a vid Alpha shared last month), Veins or Meat Ribbons are amazing. Synthwave sounds stale to me lately because of similar sound, omnipresent arpeggiators, weak melodies and basic harmonic structure, but Alpha’s unusual chord progressions as well as comparatively exotic melodies entertain me. I’ll be returning to this EP a lot; happy for the cas Tichounko
